Financial Therapy for Therapists

Why Financial Therapy?

Have you ever wondered how your relationship with money impacts your success as a therapist and small business owner?

Perhaps you:

  • Avoid looking at your bank accounts for fear of mounting expenses or debt

  • Find yourself overwhelmed, angry, or avoidant when the conversation of money comes up in your life

  • Struggle to pay yourself or exist in Noble Poverty as an under-earner

  • Experience all-or-nothing thinking about financial stability, security, or wealth

  • Struggle to ask for a raise or promotion as an employee, or don’t know how to raise your rates in private practice

  • Find yourself anxious or unsure about taking that next step in launching your private practice

  • Want to make more money and see less clients, but don’t know how

What is Financial Therapy?

Financial Therapy was coined in 2009 to capture the emotional and behavioral impact of our relationship with money within various areas of our lives.

To engage in Financial Therapy means to heal your relationship with money. To remove the mental or emotional blocks. To find yourself neutral instead of in shame. This allows you to unlock your full potential and make positive changes in your business, work-life balance, relationships, and finances!

By working with a Financial Therapist, you tap into money healing and awareness that can help you achieve your goals and improve your well-being.

Financial Therapy falls under coaching or consultation models, which allows Financial Therapists to serve people in states other than their own. Financial therapy skills can also be introduced into mental health therapy if they are in alignment with client treatment goals. Let’s explore what you are needing in your own money work and the appropriate framework for fit!

Why Do I Specialize in Working with Therapists in Financial Therapy?

Being our own boss in private practice has its benefits. It can be rewarding and inspiring to do what we do! Yet it goes without saying that starting a business or running a business is a stressful endeavor. We find ourselves working constantly and worrying about how our business is doing. Is it surviving? Thriving? Am I happy? Where do I go next with my business? Am I burning out?

Specializing in mental health therapists and Financial Therapists means I get to work with folks who are going through a journey similar to my own. Having done my own work in Financial Therapy and seen how life-changing it can be, I’ve pursued my Certified Financial Therapist-Level I credential in order to help other therapists make a powerful shift in their money story, and in their business. With most small businesses failing in the first five years, I am determined to help other passionate, entrepreneurial therapists succeed by developing a better relationship with their money!

I want to work with you if you identify as:

  • An entrepreneurial therapist

  • A therapist new to private practice

  • A therapist considering a launch into private practice

  • A therapist small business owner

  • A therapist business owner looking to expand into group practice

  • An established group practice owner wanting to streamline their finances

  • A therapist seeking secondary income streams

  • A Financial-therapist-in-training

  • A Financial Therapist wanting to do their own work

  • A Financial Therapy seeking the next level of awareness in their own money story

  • A therapist interested in learning more about financial therapy and how it can be integrated into your mental health practice.

  • A therapist curious about Financial Therapy in having just learned that it exists!

Khara presented Momentum and Money to our group of counselors and we all found it incredibly helpful to reflecting on our own journey with finances and money and how we might be able to show up better for our clients around their finances and money. As a group practice owner, I want to make sure I provide my team with learning they find value in and this is one of those.
